Multiple reports this morning are indicating the Patriots signed restricted free agent wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders of the Pittsburgh Steelers to an offer sheet. The Steelers would have five days to match the offer, otherwise they'd receive a third-round pick from New England as compensation. According to the reports, the Patriots offer was a one-year deal.
In three seasons with Pittsburgh the 5-11, 186-pound Sanders caught 94 passes for 1,294 yards and five touchdowns while also serving as an occasional kick and punt returner. For his career he averaged 10.9 yards on 16 punt returns and 24.1 on 31 kickoff returns.
Sanders would join fellow newcomers Danny Amendola, Donald Jones and Michael Jenkins among a wide receiver corps that has virtually no experience playing with Tom Brady.
