The Patriots released veteran defensive lineman Steve Martin late Thursday.

The Patriots released veteran defensive lineman Steve Martin late Thursday.

Martin had played in all 14 games for the team this season, including five starts. Martin saw significant playing time earlier in the season, but saw that time diminish with the Patriots struggles in stopping the run. He totaled 17 tackles, 13 solos.

Martin was in his seventh NFL season and spent previous time with the Colts, Eagles, Chiefs and Jets. He had 78 tackles with the Jets last season.
