Welker sticks it "in Bill's face"

There was plenty of talk early this season of the Patriots seemingly phasing 100-catch machine Wes Welker out of the offense despite his $9.5 million franchise tag salary for 2012.

Welker caught just three passes in Week 1 and was replaced by Julian Edelman in the starting lineup against the Cardinals in Week 2.

Welker seemed to poke fun at that idea Sunday night after New England's impressive win over the Broncos in which No.83 was the target of more than half Tom Brady's passes (15), leading to 13 receptions and a second straight 100-yard performance as well as a touchdown in the 31-21 victory.

"Yeah it's kind of nice to stick it in Bill's face once in a while," Welker said with a smile and wink in his weekly appearance on CSNNE's Patriots Postgame Show. "So this is definitely a good one."
