FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Former Patriots players will share their expertise with young athletes in Rhode Island this Saturday, July 21 when they bring their signature "Football for YOU" one-day camp to Providence. The New England Patriots Alumni Club (NEPAC) will offer the free football clinic at Classical High School's Al Morro Stadium. The Patriots refurbished the stadium in 2010, installing a new FieldTurf surface. More than 12 former pros are slotted to be on hand to coach area youngsters.
"Football for YOU" will take place from 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Providence on July 21. Walk up registrations are welcome. The one day clinic will include Patriots Hall of Famer Steve Nelson, who will lead youth in a football skills station beginning at 1 p.m. and will later speak to children about his experience as a Patriots player. The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, Hanover Insurance and Papa Gino's are teaming with NEPAC to deliver the free youth clinic, which is expected to include more than 100 children, ages 11-14.
"Our alumni really enjoy bringing football to different communities in New England, and Providence is one that we look forward to," said NEPAC President Peter Brock. "It's great to come back to this field for the second year and know that the Patriots helped make this a great place for football, physical fitness and fun."
"We're very excited to join with our local agent partners to sponsor this year's 'Football for YOU' clinic," said Bill Gross, regional vice president for The Hanover's commercial lines business. "These clinics are a unique way for us to team up with our local partner agents and give something back to the communities where we live and work."
"Papa Gino's is proud to support the 'Football for YOU' clinics again this year," said Rick Wolf, president and CEO of Papa Gino's, Inc. "We admire the commitment the Patriots Alumni have shown in giving hundreds of children throughout New England a chance to participate in this great football program."
"Football For You" gives aspiring stars the chance to learn skills from former Patriots players and local high school coaches in seven different skill stations. The event will conclude with a dinner of Papa Gino's pizza and gift bags for all the participants. Classical High School is located at 770 Westminster Street in Providence, R.I.
