Miami Post Game Quotes

R.Williams: "We were not confused out there at all."

Dave Wannstedt, Coach
(General)
What I told the players, it's obvious the division title is over, but our ultimate goal (playoffs) is still attainable. We just have to go about it a different way to get there. To have an opportunity to do that, we have to find a way to line up and beat Philadelphia.

Today there was some very good things done out there, but it was pretty obvious we couldn't get anything going on offense. When you turn the ball over and get sacked like we did, it makes it very difficult to win, especially on the road. The conditions and all that stuff had nothing to do with it. Both teams played in it, we just didn't handle it as well as we needed to. I thought it was an excellent defensive effort, but obviously, you win and lose as a team. Our focus now needs to be on regrouping and getting ready for Philadelphia.

(on NE defense effect on offensive problems)
We just didn't block them up front. One-on-one. We didn't block them consistently enough. There were some plays to be made, and we weren't sharp. Jay got under pressure early, got hit a few times, and whether he's getting rid of the ball too quick or whatever. We just left too many plays on the field.

(on direction of offense)
Yeah, but it didn't have any bearing on the outcome of the game at all. We're down there in position to make it 3-3 and we get sacked and fumble the ball on a quick action pass to Konrad in the flat, about as simple and safe as you can do. We made an attempt at running the ball, but they were making it tough there. You have to be able to throw and run, you have to be balanced if you're going to beat a good football team and we weren't able to do that today.

(on the sack and fumble)
We turned somebody loose, just a mental mistake on the blitz.
*
(on throwing the ball on first down)*
Our best opportunity to throw the ball was on first down when they had Ted Washington and their big guys in there. We had hit a few passes previously and on third down we weren't very comfortable. We didn't feel confident at all as far as throwing it.

(on play of offensive line today compared to the last few games)
I think it's pretty obvious we were not effective enough running or passing. When you have four or five sacks like that, as a group, that's not good and a couple of turnovers resulted from it. I think just as an entire unit, you can't pinpoint one position, but we didn't block them well enough. I said all week long this game would come down to blocking and tackling and we didn't get that done.

Adewale Ogunleye, LE
(on the weather)
It didn't matter. Snow, mud, blood who cares. It doesn't affect blocking and tackling. They just did it better. We blew the AFC East, but we still have our goal in sight. We need to win and make the playoffs.

Larry Chester, RT
(on playoff chances)
We have to play our games now and wait and see if the rest of the AFC will let us into the playoffs.

(on the game)
The weather had no part of it. We've had the same coaches for the past six years and so haven't they, so there are no surprises. It's about executing. If we have so many turnovers, we need to get the same amount back.
Rob Konrad, FB

(on losing)
I'm tired of it. We have to stop losing critical games. It's a different team every year, guys change around. I'm getting sick of this locker room afterwards. It's kind of a sickening feeling when you walk in here now. We have to get things turned around.

(about Patriots defense)
I don't think they did anything that we were not expecting. We had some missed assignments that led to some sacks. They have not done anything that they haven't done before.

(on December problems)
Until we turn it around, we are going to hear it.

Todd Perry, G
(on the defense)
It's not that we didn't expect it. You prepare for every look that they've done for the last four or five years, and you've played them enough to know what they can do. You know there is going to be something different when you play them. We had too many three and outs, so you really can't establish a rhythm of any kind.

Sam Madison, FS
(on losing)
It's frustrating but we are a team. We didn't play well enough, so we had to do a little something extra and we didn't get that extra what we needed to come out of this game with a victory.

Ricky Williams, RB
(on the patriots defense)
We had a good idea what they were going to do and they did exactly what we thought they were going to do. We were not confused out there at all.
*
(on the offense struggling)*
We kept moving the ball, but we couldn't put any points on the board. You need to score points to win ball games.
