"It obviously makes good football sense to pry Revis - widely regarded as the top cornerback of his generation - away from the Buccaneers in a blockbuster trade," writes Volin. "Revis, who will be 29 this summer, is likely the difference between another loss in the AFC Championship game and an appearance in the Super Bowl."

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com looks at the potential free agent fits at wide receiver for the Patriots. Reiss lists Jason Avant (Eagles), Julian Edelman, and Emmanuel Sanders (Steelers) as the projected top targets for New England.

"Why Avant fits: Released by the Eagles on Tuesday, he is a respected veteran who was considered a locker room leader, and also a strong special teams player," writes Reiss. "Based on the youth the Patriots have at the position, adding a veteran such as Avant could be a nice complement on the back end of the depth chart." READ MORE>>

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald believes that Patriots impending free agent WR Julian Edelman is a "key domino" in the Patriots offseason plans. He also looks at other realistic options on offense.

"Wideout Hakeem Nicks would be a terrific option as an outside receiver if interest wanes because of his down season, but the 6-foot-1, 26-year-old should be grinning wide after Riley Cooper inked a five-year, $25 million deal with the Eagles," writes Howe. "If Nicks can be had for prove-it money, that's great for the Pats. But if there's competition and Nicks can surpass Cooper's money, so much for that." READ MORE>>

Nick Underhill of MassLive.com writes that the Patriots met with Texas A&M WR Mike Evans in advance of the school's Pro Day, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"The 6-foot-5, 231-pound Evans is considered to be one of the better receivers in this year's class after catching 69 passes for 1,394 yards and 12 touchdowns last season," notes Underhill. "Due to his combination of size and production, Evans is likely to be off the board before New England comes on the clock for the 29th pick. Phil Perry of CSNNE.com believes it would be a sensible move for the Patriots to bring in a veteran safety through free agency to push Duron Harmon for the starting job alongside Devin McCourty.

"Guys like Kendrick Lewis out of Kansas City or Malcolm Jenkins out of New Orleans are versatile -- a plus in the eyes of the Patriots -- and would be stable options, but both will be looking to easily slide into starting roles in all likelihood," writes Perry.
