News Blitz 5/14: Big stretch for Malcolm Mitchell

All of the day's Patriots news in one convenient place.

The Patriots have a rather deep corps of receivers on paper, but oftentimes depth in the offseason doesn't necessarily translate to depth when it counts.

As an example, one of the receivers Patriots fans would love to watch play this season is Malcolm Mitchell. After a solid rookie year that included several key plays in the Super Bowl win over Atlanta, Mitchell missed his entire sophomore campaign while dealing with a nagging knee injury.

He was unable to practice on a consistent basis and ultimately it turned out to be a lost season. As a result, The Athletic believes the receiver is facing a crucial stretch with OTAs and mini-camp on the horizon to prove his durability.

The Patriots new leader on defense is tough players according to ESPN.com.

The Boston Globe says the Patriots will try a new approach while coaching their pass rushers this season.

The Patriot Ledger chats with running backs coach Ivan Fears, who has a message for rookie first-round pick Sony Michel. Speaking of Michel, the Worcester Telegram believes the running back is a physical playmaker.

Finally, ESPN.com leads its Sunday notes with Patriots coaches talking about the influence their mothers had on them growing up.
