FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots re-signed rookie defensive back Gemara Williams today.

Williams, 23, was signed by the Patriots on May 8, 2006 as a non-drafted rookie free agent from the University of Buffalo, but was waived prior to the start of training camp on July 25. The 5-foot-8-inch, 185-pound defender recorded 39 passes defensed during his collegiate career, the most in school history. Last season, he finished the year with 61 tackles and 14 passes defensed, including one interception. He started his career at safety, but made the transition to cornerback during his junior year.
