Quick Kicks: Fri. 12-9 Practice/Locker Room Notebook

Erik Scalavino offers his Friday locker room notes as the Patriots prepare to play the Washington Redskins

… Another chilly, sunny day in New England meant the Patriots returned to their double outdoor practice fields for their final practice of Redskins Week. Players were in shells, helmets, and sweats again for this session.

… Right tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back/right foot) remains out of commission. He was joined on the absentee list today by rookie o-lineman Marcus Cannon (unknown).

… Rookie RB Stevan Ridley returned to the field. He'd been excused for the past couple of days to return home for personal reasons.

… WR Wes Welker, spotted this week at a charity event with what appeared to be a light cast on his right wrist, took questions from reporters at his locker, as he does each Friday. Of course, the main topic of discussion was the aforementioned issue, which never made it onto the official injury report. "Wrist is fine," Welker stated flatly. His tone became surprisingly evasive in nature, though, when pressed on the subject. "I never wore a brace … it wasn't a soft cast," he contended, despite photographic and eyewitness evidence to the contrary. "I'm not sure where that's coming from. I don't know, whatever they think, they think. I'm just out there trying to play some ball." He eventually conceded that he was indeed sporting a "little lining" over the affected area. If it's not enough to be listed on the injury report, it's probably not a major concern, but Welker's initial dodging seemed to make the mole-hill of an issue into more of a mountain than it needed to be.

… A full injury status update, for both the Patriots and Redskins, will be posted around 4 p.m. here in this blog entry.

UPDATE … 3:55 P.M.

… Vollmer has been ruled OUT of Sunday's game in Washington. DE/OLB Jermaine Cunningham has been added to the list with a hamstring injury. He's DOUBTFUL.

… Twelve other Patriots are QUESTIONABLE: CB Kyle Arrington (foot), safety Patrick Chung (right foot), C Dan Connolly (groin), WR/DB/returner Julian Edelman (back), LB Dane Fletcher (right thumb), S James Ihedigbo (shoulder), cornerback Devin McCourty (right shoulder), WR Matthew Slater (shoulder), LB Brandon Spikes (right knee), rookie RB Shane Vereen (hamstring), center Ryan Wendell (calf), and RB Danny Woodhead (abdomen).

… Welker (knee) is PROBABLE, as is Cannon, whose absence from practice today was not injury-related.

… Down in D.C., starting safety LaRon Landry (groin) is OUT after not practicing all week. He is the most noteworthy of the Redskins' injuries. Ten other Skins, including starting corner DeAngelo Hall (back) and starting linebacker London Fletcher (ankle), are PROBABLE.
