Quick Kicks: Pats-Raiders pre-game observations

Erik Scalavino offers his pre-game observations before the Patriots take on the Raiders today

Just a few quick thoughts as we await kickoff at O.co Coliseum:

  • Tom Brady warming up early … He did this for the first time last week at Buffalo with Chad Ochocinco and was out again about 90 minutes prior to kickoff today, but just by himself. The tactic seemed to work at least for the first half against the Bills a week ago. Perhaps he needed the alone time to make sure there's no repeat of the second half.
  • WR Taylor Price and rookie RB Shane Vereen are both active this week. Something tells me both will finally play a part in this game.
  • With ailing corners (Bodden, Dowling), I'm looking for something out of Antwaun Molden and/or Phillip Adams.
  • The field at O.co Coliseum has been re-sodded now that the MLB season is over. There's no more infield dirt, but the new turf hasn't fully settled yet. There are obvious seams and creases in the end zones and along the sidelines, plus spots throughout where clumps of dirt and grass have come up during pre-game warmups. Not as great a surface as I'd hoped, but certainly better than last week's field that the Jets played on here.
