Stai to Retire from Football

Veteran offensive guard Brenden Stai informed the team of his intention to retire from football today.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Veteran offensive guard Brenden Stai informed the team of his intention to retire from football today.

Stai, 31, joined the Patriots as a veteran free agent on July 28, 2003 during the first week of training camp. The eight-year veteran had started 96 of 105 games during his career with four different teams. In 2002, the 6-foot-4-inch, 312-pound lineman started five games at right guard for the Washington Redskins. He was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round (91st overall) of the 1995 NFL draft. He played five seasons with the Steelers, followed by one-year stints at Jacksonville (2000) and Detroit (2001) before signing with the Redskins last year.
