FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Hall at Patriot Place presented by Raytheon has announced the deadline for submitting a nomination application for the 2013-2014 Massachusetts STEM teacher (science, technology, engineering, math) has been extended through Friday, Feb. 28.

The STEM Teacher of the Year program will recognize a Massachusetts STEM teacher who is making significant contributions to education by awarding a $5,000 grant to the teacher's school to be used for STEM education, as well as honoring the teacher at The Hall at Patriot Place, the Massachusetts STEM Summit and during a pregame ceremony at a New England Patriots home game.

Last year's inaugural STEM Teacher of the Year was Kelly Powers from the Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School in Marlborough, Mass.

"We are thrilled to be honoring a Massachusetts STEM Teacher," Hall Executive Director Bryan Morry said. "Kelly was honored by Governor Patrick at the 2013 Massachusetts STEM Summit held at Gillette Stadium and was honored to be selected as our first STEM Teacher of the Year. We look forward to doing this annually as part of our commitment to STEM education."

All full-time, active and certified K-12 classroom STEM teachers in a state-accredited Massachusetts public or private school are eligible for STEM Teacher of the Year. Nominations must be submitted by someone with direct knowledge of the teacher's impact in his or her school. The nomination deadline is now Friday, Feb. 28. A nomination form is available for download at www.thehallatpatriotplace.com and can be submitted by mail or email. A committee comprised of STEM professionals and staff from The Hall, the New England Patriots and Raytheon will select five finalists. The finalists will be interviewed individually by the committee, after which the committee will select the STEM Teacher of the Year.
