Tippett among Hall finalists

Andre Tippett, the Patriots former star linebacker who went to five Pro Bowls during his career in New England, was among the finalist for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Andre Tippett was among the 15 finalists for induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Tippett, who played for the Patriots from 1982-1993, advanced to the finals of the selection process for the first time of his career.

Tippett and the 14 other finalists join Gene Hickerson and Charlie Sanders, the two senior finalists that were nominated in August by the Hall of Fame's Senior Committee. The other 14 include Fred Dean, Richard Dent, Russ Grimm, Ray Guy, Michael Irvin, Bob Kuechenberg, Bruce Matthews, Art Monk, Andre Reed, Paul Tagliabue, Derrick Thomas, Thurman Thomas, Roger Wehrli and Gary Zimmerman.

The final voting for the class of 2007 will be conducted at the Hall of Fame Selection Committee's meeting, held Feb. 3 in Miami the day before the Super Bowl. The results will be announced immediately following the meeting. As a general rule, between three and six new members are selected. Enshrinement of the Class of 2007 will take place at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, on the weekend of August 4-5.
