News Blitz 8/29: Stork's strange case

A roundup of Patriots news.

Whirlwind might be the perfect term to describe the past week for Bryan Stork.

In a bizarre set of circumstances, he finds himself back – at least for the moment – with New England after the Patriots tried twice to part with him. An ESPN report explains how it all happened.

In other roster moves, the Patriots have reportedly let go of DT Terrance Knighton. The player himself confirmed the move, as CSNNE.com details this morning.

Meanwhile, rookie QB Jacoby Brissett received a lot of attention the past couple of days after his 9-for-9 effort at Carolina, but Brissett is keeping things in perspective, as he told reporters Sunday. The Boston Herald provides a detailed account.

"It's a work in progress," he asserted. "You just try to get better each day you step out there and learn from everything that happens in a game and practice."

Elsewhere, *The Providence Journal *caught up with LB Jonathan Freeny, who inked a two-year extension with New England recently.

"It's a good feeling. You know, that I'm extend with this team for another two years," Freeny said Sunday. "This team I have a lot of respect for and the way we do things around here. It's just a relief to be here another two years."

With roster cuts coming twice this week, plenty of media are offering roster projections, including the ProJo, ESPN, and the MassLive blog.

One player who appears safe to make the 53 is veteran DE Chris Long, who spoke Sunday about what it means to him to be a Patriot. NESN.com recaps his discussion with the media.

Finally, on a sad note, ESPN also offers a tribute to former Patriots center Bill Lenkaitis, who died over the weekend.

"Bill centered one of the greatest offensive lines, not just in franchise history, but in NFL history," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in part in a statement. "He was a big man with an even bigger personality and a huge heart."
