FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced that they have signed WR Bernard Reedy. He was released from the New England practice squad on Jan. 3, 2018. In addition, the Patriots placed DB Jonathan Jones on injured reserve. Jones suffered an injury in the victory over Tennessee on Saturday.
Reedy, 26, was originally signed by New England to the practice squad on Nov. 22, 2017. He was elevated to the 53-man roster on December 2, before being released on December 13, and re-signed to the practice squad on December 19. Reedy was released from the practice squad on January 3. The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder appeared in two games with the Patriots as a returner and totaled 32 yards on four punt returns. Reedy previously played in nine games this season for Tampa Bay and caught two passes for 21 yards and accrued 17 yards on three rushing attempts before being released on November 17. Reedy originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Atlanta Falcons on May 12, 2014, out of Toledo. He spent his rookie season on the Atlanta practice squad and was released at the end of training camp on Sept. 2, 2015. Reedy signed with Tampa Bay on Feb. 5, 2016, and was released prior to the start of the regular season on September 7. He signed with the Tampa Bay practice squad on December 6, and was added to the 53-man roster on December 21. He was inactive for the final two games of the regular season that year.
Jones, 24, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with New England out of Auburn on May 6, 2016. The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder has appeared in 32 regular-season games with five starts over two seasons and registered 42 tackles, one sack, one interception, nine passes defensed and 10 special teams tackles. Jones has also played in three postseason contests as a reserve and posted one tackle on defense and five special teams tackles.
