FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Tom Brady has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week by the National Football League for his performance in the Patriots' 42-14 victory over the Houston Texans last Monday night. It is the 23rd time in his career that Brady has received the AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor, breaking a tie with Denver's Peyton Manning for the most Player of the Week awards earned by a player since the accolade was instituted in 1984. It is Brady's third honor this year, after earning the award for his performances in the Patriots' 52-28 victory over Buffalo in Week 4 and the 45-7 win over St. Louis in London in Week 8.
Brady completed 21 of 35 passes for 296 yards and four touchdown passes against the Texans. It was Brady's 36th career NFL game with at least three touchdown passes and no interceptions, tied for second all-time with Brett Favre and one behind Peyton Manning (37). Brady threw touchdown passes on the Patriots first three drives and led the team to a 28-0 halftime lead. It was Brady's 45th straight game with a touchdown pass, the longest active streak and third-longest streak all-time, behind Drew Brees (54) and Johnny Unitas (47).
It is the fourth time in 2012 that the Patriots have been honored with a Player of the Week Award. Brady was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 4 at Buffalo and Week 8 at St. Louis and DB Devin McCourty was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 7 vs. the New York Jets.
