Patriots sign Ade Jimoh; Release OL Pete McMahon

The New England Patriots signed veteran cornerback Ade Jimoh today. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots signed veteran cornerback Ade Jimoh today. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Jimoh will wear number 43 for the Patriots. Additionally, the Patriots released first-year offensive lineman Pete McMahon.

Ade Jimoh (pronounced ODD-ee gym-OH), 28, has played in 69 career NFL games with the Washington Redskins (2003-06) and Chicago Bears (2007). The 6-foot-1-inch, 187-pound defensive back has recorded 28 career tackles (25 solo), five passes defensed and 68 special teams tackles. Jimoh was originally signed by the Redskins as a rookie free agent out of Utah State in April 2003. He played in 63 of a possible 64 games for the Redskins over four seasons from 2003-06, and recorded 20 special teams tackles in three straight seasons from 2004-06. Jimoh was released by the Redskins following the 2007 preseason and signed with the Chicago Bears in September 2007. He played in six games for the Bears last season and recorded three special teams tackles before being placed on the reserve/injured list on Nov. 20, 2007.

McMahon, 26, was signed by the Patriots on July 27, 2008. He was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of the University of Iowa. The 6-foot-8-inch, 330-pound offensive lineman has not played in an NFL game. He spent the 2005 season as a member of the Cleveland Browns practice squad and was in training camps with the New York Jets (2006) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2007). McMahon was out of football during the 2006 and 2007 regular seasons. He was re-signed by the Jaguars as a free agent on March 5, 2008 and was released by Jacksonville on July 25, 2008.
