FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have waived CB D.J. James from the 53-man roster and signed DT Jeremiah Pharms Jr. to the practice squad. Pharms was released from the 53-man roster on Sept. 6, 2025.
James, 24, originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick (192ndoverall) by Seattle in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Auburn. He was released by Seattle on Aug. 27, 2024 and then was signed by New England to the practice squad on Sept. 16, 2024. The 6-foot, 184-pounder, began his college career at Oregon before transferring to Auburn for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He made his NFL debut in the 2025 season-opener vs. Las Vegas on Sunday.
Pharms, 28, originally joined New England on July 19, 2022, after playing for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL. The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder, spent the entire 2022 season on the practice squad and then after starting the 2023 season on the practice squad was signed to the 53-man roster. He has played in 28 games with five starts over the last two seasons and has 42 total tackles and 2 sacks.
