The New England Patriots will travel to face the Buffalo Bills in a Sunday Night Football game. The Patriots will look to begin with a 2-0 mark against the AFC East for the first time since starting with a 5-0 record in division play in 2019. The Patriots beat Miami, 33-27, in their first divisional game in Week 2. This week's game will be the Patriots' last regular season game played at Highmark Stadium as Buffalo will open its new stadium next year. This week's game will also mark the first of three straight road games with games at New Orleans and at Tennessee following the trip to Buffalo. It is the Patriots first three-game road trip for New England since the 2020 season.
SERIES HISTORY
New England and Buffalo will meet for the first of two scheduled meetings this week when they travel to Buffalo for a Sunday Night Football game. The Patriots will host Buffalo at Gillette Stadium on Dec. 14.
The teams will meet in a prime time game for the 12th time overall, the fifth time in a Sunday night game and for the first time since the Patriots lost a Thursday Night game, 24-10, against Buffalo at Gillette Stadium on Dec 1, 2022. The team's last met in a Sunday Night Football game on Nov. 18, 2007 when the Patriots took a 56-10 victory at Buffalo. The Patriots are 9-2 overall against Buffalo in prime time with a 5-1 record on Monday Night Football, a 4-0 record in Sunday Night Football games and an 0-1 record in Thursday Night Football games.
The teams have split the annual series in each of the last two years. Last season, the Patriots lost at Buffalo, 24-21, on Dec. 22 and then two weeks later beat Buffalo in the season-finale, 23-16, on Jan. 5, 2025.
This week's game will be the 132nd meeting between the two teams. New England holds a 79-51-1 edge in the series and has won 38 of the last 50 regular season games between the clubs, dating back to 2000.
The Patriots are 37-26-1 all-time in games played in Buffalo, including 31-20 at Highmark Stadium.
The series between the AFC East rivals began in 1960. The Patriots' 79 wins over the Bills are their highest victory total over any opponent, four higher than their next highest win total against the New York Jets (75).
After seven-straight series sweeps and 15-consecutive Patriots wins from 2003-10, Buffalo ended the streak with a 34-31 victory at Ralph Wilson Stadium in the first meeting between the teams in 2011. The 15-game win streak is tied for the longest streak over a single opponent in team history with 15-straight wins over the New York Jets.
The teams have had many memorable matchups over the years, including a span from 1999 to 2001, where four-of-six contests were decided in overtime.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR...
- The Patriots scored 42 points against Carolina last week. If they generate at least 30 points this week at Buffalo, it will be their first back-to-back games with at least 30 points since the 2020 season when they scored 30 in a 35-30 loss at Seattle (9/20) and then won 36-20 vs. Las Vegas (9/27). The last time the Patriots scored at least 40 points in back-to-back games was during the 2015 season when the team followed a 40-32 win at Buffalo (9/20) with a 51-17 win vs. Jacksonville (9/27).
- A win this week against Buffalo will give the Patriots their first two-game winning streak since the 2022 season when they won three straight games - at the N.Y. Jets (10/30) followed by a 26-3 win vs. Indianapolis (11/6) and 10-3 vs. the N.Y. Jets (11/20).
- A victory this week at Buffalo will push the Patriots to 2-0 in AFC East games. The Patriots will look to begin with a 2-0 mark against the AFC East for the first time since starting with a 5-0 record in division play in 2019.
- CB Marcus Jones returned a first quarter punt 87 yards for a touchdown last week against Carolina. If the Patriots return a punt for a touchdown this week against Buffalo, it will be the first time in team history that they have returned a punt for a touchdown in back-to-back weeks. Troy Brown is the only Patriots player to have two punt returns for a touchdown in a single season when he returned two punts for touchdowns during the 2001 season. The last NFL player to return a punt for a touchdown in back-to-back weeks was CB Patrick Peterson in 2011 when he played for Arizona – at Baltimore (10/30) and vs. St. Louis (11/6).
- With Jones' 87-yard touchdown return last week vs. Carolina and RB Antonio Gibson's 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown at Miami on Sept. 14, it marked the fourth season that the Patriots have returned at least one punt and one kickoff for a touchdown in the same season. The Patriots have also returned both a punt and kick for a touchdown in 1980, 2010 and 2012. Of those seasons, only the 2010 season had multiple returns. That year, the Patriots returned one punt for a touchdown and two kicks for a touchdown. If the Patriots get a touchdown on a return this week at Buffalo, they can match that season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
HUNTER HENRY #85, TE
- TE Hunter Henry enters this week ranked fifth among New England tight ends with 2,409 receiving yards and needs 79 yards this week against Buffalo to move past Jim Whalen into fourth place on the Patriots all-time list among tight ends.
ANTONIO GIBSON #4, RB
- RB Antonio Gibson returned a fourth quarter kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter at Miami. If Gibson returns a kick for a touchdown this week against Buffalo, he will join Raymond Clayborn (3 in 1977), Brandon Tate (2 in 2010) and Kevin Faulk (2 in 2002) as the only players to have more than one kick returned for a touchdown in a single season for the Patriots.
RHAMONDRE STEVENSON #38, RB
- RB Rhamondre Stevenson is in eighth place on the Patriots all-time rushing list and needs 59 yards rushing this week at Buffalo to move past John Stephens (3,249) into seventh place.
STEFON DIGGS WR, #8
- WR Stefon Diggs registered his 37th career 100-yard receiving game and his first as a member of the Patriots when he finished with 6 receptions for 101 yards last week against Carolina. If he reaches 100 yards receiving this week at Buffalo, it will be his first game with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since a stretch of four straight 100-yard games in 2023 when he played for Buffalo.
- The last Patriots player with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games in the same season was WR Julian Edelman in 2019 with 110 yards at Washington (10/6) followed by 113 yards vs. the New York Giants (10/10).
MARCUS JONES CB, #25
- CB Marcus Jones became the fifth Patriots player with at least two career punt returns for a touchdown, joining Julian Edelman (4), Troy Brown (3), Irving Fryar (3) and Mike Haynes (2) following an 87-yard punt returned for a touchdown last week against Carolina. If he returns a punt for a touchdown this week at Buffalo, he will join Edelman, Brown and Fryar as the only Patriots players with three punts returned for a touchdown.
- If Jones returns a punt for a touchdown this week at Buffalo, he will join Troy Brown as the only Patriots players with two punt returns for a touchdown in a single season. Brown returned two punts for a touchdown during the 2001 season.
DRAKE MAYE #10, QB
- QB Drake Maye had his fourth game with an 80% completion percentage last week vs. Carolina after completing 14-of-17 pass attempts for an 82.4 pass completion percentage. As a rookie in 2024, he had back-to-back games completing 80 percent of his passes to join Mac Jones (2021) as the only Patriots quarterbacks with back-to-back games with 80 percent of his passes completed. If Maye completes 80 percent of his passes this week against Buffalo, he will be the only Patriots quarterback with consecutive games with 80 percent of his passes completed two times in their career.
- Maye now has two games in 2025 with an 80 percent pass completion (minimum 10 pass attempts) after completing 19- of-23 pass attempts at Miami (9/14) for an 82.6 pass completion percentage and last week when he completed 14-of-17 passes for an 82.4 pass completion percentage in the victory vs. Carolina. If he completes at least 80 percent of his passes this week at Buffalo, he will be the first New England quarterback with three games in a season with an 80 percent completion percentage.
- Maye has thrown 2 touchdown passes in each of the last three games after throwing for 2 touchdown passes last week vs. Carolina. If he throws for at least 2 touchdown passes this week at Buffalo, he will be the first Patriots quarterback with at least 2 touchdown passes in four straight games since the 2016 season when Tom Brady threw for at least two touchdown passes in four straight games (10/9/16 – 10/20/16).
- Maye has had a 75-plus completion percentage and thrown at least 2 touchdown passes in three consecutive games. If he completes at least 75 percent of his passes and throws at least 2 touchdown passes this week at Buffalo, he will tie Tom Brady for the longest such streak in a single season in NFL history. Brady accomplished the feat during a four-game streak in 2007.
