Biography
COACHING
Ashton Grant joins the Patriots in 2025 as quarterbacks coach. He comes to New England after serving five seasons in various offensive roles at the Cleveland Browns and one season at Holy Cross. Most recently, Grant served as offensive assistant/quarterbacks in Cleveland from 2023-24. He worked on the Browns offensive staff alongside Mike Vrabel last season.
As offensive assistant/quarterbacks with Cleveland in 2024, Grant oversaw an offense where WR Jerry Jeudy recorded career highs in receptions (90) and receiving yards (1,229) with four touchdowns, leading to his first career selection to the Pro Bowl. Jeudy joined former Cleveland receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Amari Cooper as the only Browns receivers to register 1,000 receiving yards or more in their first season with the team. In addition, tight end David Njoku led the team with five receiving touchdowns to reach 30 in his career, marking the most receiving touchdowns by a Brown since 1999. Under Grant's tutelage, QB Jameis Winston earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after a week eight win vs. Baltimore, throwing for 334 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 115.3 quarterback rating.
In his first season as offensive assistant/quarterbacks with the Browns in 2023, Grant assisted QB Deshaun Watson achieve a 5-1 record as a starter and QB Joe Flacco register a 4-1 record as a starter. In addition, Flacco became the first Browns player to throw for 300-yards in four consecutive games en route to being named the 2023 NFL Comeback Player of the year. After the season, Grant served as the wide receivers coach in the Senior Bowl.
As an offensive quality control coach in 2022, Grant was an integral piece in assisting the coaching staff. Grant worked closely with the Browns tight ends and coach T.C. McCartney. After the season, Grant served as wide receivers coach for the West team in the East-West Shrine Bowl. In 2021, he worked with Browns wide receivers and coach Chad O'Shea.
In 2020, Grant worked in the running backs room with run game coordinator/running backs coach Stump Mitchell. He oversaw a Browns rushing attack of Nick Chubb (1,067 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns) and Kareem Hunt (1,144 rushing yards and 11 total touchdowns) that became the only pair of NFL teammates to each record at least 840 rushing yards in 2020, highlighted by a win vs. Houston in week 10 where Chubb (126 rushing yards) and Hunt (104 rushing yards) became the first Browns to each record 100 yards rushing in the same game since 1966.
Prior to the Browns, Grant served as a quality control coach at Holy Cross from 2019-20. He primarily handled special teams quality control under head coach Bob Chesney. Grant helped the Crusaders to their first Patriot League Championship in 10 years, and just the third NCAA football subdivision berth in program history.
PLAYING
Grant played wide receiver for four years at Assumption from 2014-17, where he owns the school record for receiving yards (3,204), touchdown receptions (36), and touchdown receptions in a single season (13) from 2014-17, including an NE10 Championship in 2015. Grant participated in training camps with Kansas City and Chicago.
PERSONAL
A native of Manchester, Conn., Grant was named to the NE10 All-Conference team at Assumption twice, as well as the NE10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2016. He is the son of Glenford Grant and Jessica Chalk. Grant has one brother, Shawn, who played football at nearby Westfield State in 2016-17. Grant and his wife, Briana, have one daughter, Ava.
