COACHING

BJ Edmonds joins the Patriots in 2026 as a defensive assistant after two seasons at Duke (2024-25) as an analyst, working primarily with the cornerbacks.

In his final season at Duke, Edmonds helped the Blue Devils capture the 2025 ACC Conference Championship and a Sun Bowl victory, with the defense intercepting 14 passes, tied for the fourth-most in the conference.

Edmonds joined Duke in 2024, helping guide the team to a 9-4 record and Gator Bowl appearance in the first year of head coach Manny Diaz's tenure. His expertise aided junior cornerback Chandler Rivers in securing First-Team All-ACC and Second-Team All-American (The Athletic and College Football Network) honors after logging 54 tackles (30 solo), 8 passes defensed, 71/2 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions (including one returned for a touchdown), 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.

Before joining the Blue Devils, Edmonds spent three seasons at Utah State University. He joined the program in 2021 as a defensive recruiting analyst before spending 2022 and 2023 as a defensive graduate assistant. The Aggies appeared in bowl games in each of his seasons and won the 2021 MWC Championship.

Edmonds began his coaching career in 2020 as a defensive graduate assistant at Kansas Wesleyan University, helping the Coyotes to an 8-2 record.

PLAYING

Edmonds anchored the backfield as a three-year starter at defensive back at Arkansas State backfield from 2016-19.He appeared in 49 games for the Red Wolves, recording 265 tackles (143 solo), 19 passes defensed, 8 interceptions, 3 tackles for loss and 3 forced fumbles in his collegiate career. He also returned punts in his senior season, returning 21 punts for a conference-leading 227 yards and 10.8 return average. He was a 2017 All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention and 2019 All-Sun Belt Second Team honoree.

PERSONAL

A native of Mobile, Ala., Edmonds graduated from Arkansas State with a bachelor's degree in sports management in 2020.
