COACHING
Jason Houghtaling enters his first season as assistant offensive line coach with the Patriots. He previously served as assistant offensive line coach for the Chicago Bears in 2024.
Prior to Chicago, Houghtaling spent three seasons with the Tennessee Titans on Mike Vrabel's staff as assistant offensive line coach (2021-22) and offensive line coach (2023). Behind the Titans offensive line in 2023, RB Derrick Henry finished second in the NFL in rushing yards (1,167) and led the AFC in yards per game (68.6) and rushing attempts (280). In 2022, C Ben Jones was named to his first Pro Bowl, and Henry finished second in the NFL with 1,538 rushing yards. Despite battling injuries on the offensive line in 2021, the Titans offense finished fifth in the league in rushing average (141.4 yards per game), and LG Rodger Saffold III earned his first career Pro Bow honor.
Prior to his role with the Titans, Houghtaling spent 15 years in the college ranks, mostly with Wagner College. He was the Wagner's head coach from 2015-19, coaching 28 All-Northeast Conference selections. He also served two stints as offensive coordinator (2011-12, 2014), helping Wagner total a 16-6 NEC record with two league titles throughout his three seasons in the position. In 2012, Houghtaling tutored QB Nick Doscher, who set school records in total offense (8,404 yards) and passing yards (6,100). The 8,404 yards of total offense ranked second in conference history.
Houghtaling was Wagner's offensive line coach from 2007-09, and his first job in college coaching was as running backs coach in 2006. Houghtaling's other college coaching roles include offensive line at Colgate (2020), offensive coordinator at Cornell (2013), offensive coordinator at Williams College and head coach at Hudson Valley Community College (2010). He began his coaching career at his high school alma mater, Windsor Central High School, where he spent two years coaching offensive line and linebackers. He then served as defensive coordinator, defensive line coach and strength and conditioning coach at Milford Academy (Berlin, N.Y.) before joining the staff at Wagner.
PLAYING
Houghtaling originally attended Lafayette, where he was a defensive lineman for the Leopards. Ultimately, injuries cut short his playing career, and transferred to Binghamton, where he graduated with a degree in history in 2004. He then earned a master's degree in education from Wagner in 2009.
PERSONAL
A native of Windsor, New York, Houghtaling and his wife, Mary, have two daughters: Abbie and Emma. He is known as "Hoss" to players and fellow coaches.
