Post-practice quotes - 8/7/2006

Patriots offensive lineman Dan Koppen and tight end Daniel Graham addressed the media at the conclusion of Monday afternoon's Training Camp practice at Gillette Stadium.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN DAN KOPPEN

On being back:

DK: It feels really good. Just sitting around watching the guys work hard for the last few months has been tough and to have them come out here and go through training camp alone, you want to be out there with them. It's my first day back and I'm just happy to be out here.

On Rodney Harrison coming back the same day:

DK: I think we pretty much cleared the whole training room out today. It's good to see Rodney running around. He's been looking good. It's just starting to come together now.

On Harrison's affect on the team:

DK: Rodney is just a great leader on and off the field. He's a very talkative guy and he's been around the league and guys really look up to him in the locker room. To see him out here running for the first time it gives those younger defensive backs a little bit of a pick-up because they know he's going to be pushing them and giving them advice and the right reads to make. It definitely helps out everybody.

On Harrison's preparedness:

DK: He's a competitor. He's been wanting to get out on this field for a long time. We've been in the training room way too long together.

On training camp:

DK: It's probably the first time in my life I've been happy to be at a training camp practice. Like I said, it's just good to be back with the guys and back working with them. You just feel miserable when they're out working in the heat and hitting all day and you're just sitting back running and whatever.

On the toughest part of rehab:

DK: Probably just watching everybody else out there playing. I've never gotten hurt before, so that was tough at first, to watch games and see the success they were having and you feel like you want to be out there and be a part of it. That was tough, and then just working to pick up my arm again. I'm coming back good, and I'm just going to work through it now.

TIGHT END DANIEL GRAHAM

On the first practice:

DG: I felt pretty comfortable. It was my first day getting back into the swing of things. Get my feet wet. It was my first day. I've got a lot of making up to do.

On being behind:

DG: I just have to catch up on my timing, get my footwork down, catch the balls from the quarterback, get back into it.

On being the veteran of the tight ends:

DG: We have a good group of guys and I think this year we'll be a good group at the tight end spot.

On how to help the rookie tight ends:

DG: Teaching them the ropes. Helping them watch film, break other teams down. We have some pretty good tight ends that we drafted. I'm pretty confident that they'll help us out a lot this year.
