Patriots Release WR Antonio Brown; Announce Practice Squad Moves

The Patriots announced that they have released WR Antonio Brown. Additionally, New England has signed LB Scooby Wright to the practice squad and released DL Gerri Green from the practice squad.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced that they have released WR Antonio Brown. Additionally, New England has signed LB Scooby Wright to the practice squad and released DL Gerri Green from the practice squad.

Brown, 31, was signed by New England on Sept. 9, 2019. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder is a veteran of nine NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2010-18). Brown originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick (195th overall) of Pittsburgh out of Central Michigan in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was traded by Pittsburgh to Oakland on March 13, 2019 and released by Oakland on Sept. 7, 2019.

Brown has played in 131 games with 103 starts and totaled 841 receptions for 11,263 yards and 75 touchdown receptions. He also has 32 rushing attempts for 124 yards, 186 punt returns for 1,759 yards and four touchdowns and 47 kickoff returns for 1,173 yards and one touchdown. He has played in 10 postseason games with six starts, tallying 51 receptions for 837 yards and four touchdowns.

Wright, 25, was originally signed by the Patriots on Aug. 25 and released prior to the start of the regular season. The 6-foot, 247-pounder entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (250th overall) of the Cleveland Browns out of Arizona in the 2016 NFL Draft. He began his rookie season on Cleveland's 53-man roster before being released and signed to the practice squad. Wright was signed by Arizona off the Cleveland practice squad on Dec. 13, 2016, and played in the final three games of the season. He split the 2017 season between the Arizona practice squad and 53-man roster, seeing action in 10 games. Wright was released by Arizona at the end of training camp last season.

Green, 23, was signed by New England to the practice squad on Sept. 2. The 6-foot-4, 252-pounder was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round (199th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State. He appeared in 52 career games with 27 starts for the Bulldogs and totaled 161 tackles, 8½ sacks, nine passes defensed, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. As a team captain in 2018, Green started all 13 games and posted 31 tackles, 3½ sacks and one pass defensed. He was released by the Colts on Aug. 31, 2019.
